Expansion joints

Fabric, rubber and metal expansion joints for absorbing thermal expansion, movement, vibration and misalignment in industrial piping and equipment.

Industrial expansion joints
01

Why use an expansion joint?

Temperature changes, vibration, structural movement and installation tolerances create displacement that rigid piping cannot always accommodate directly.

A correctly specified expansion joint can absorb:

  • axial movement;
  • lateral movement;
  • angular movement;
  • vibration;
  • certain installation misalignments.

The type of expansion joint depends on the medium, temperature, positive or negative pressure, movement amplitude, number of cycles, environment and available space.

02

Three families

Coated-fabric expansion joints

Particularly suitable for air, gas and flue-gas ducting and large cross-sections, with a multi-layer construction selected for the temperature and chemical environment.

Rubber expansion joints

Flexible moulded elements primarily for fluid piping, available in various elastomers with reinforcement and liner options.

Metal expansion joints

Metal bellows for systems requiring a construction engineered for pressure, temperature or piping requirements.

03

Specifying an expansion joint

Information required to specify the solution:

  • installation drawing;
  • dimensions / DN;
  • fluid;
  • temperature;
  • positive and negative pressure;
  • axial, lateral and angular movements;
  • frequency / number of cycles;
  • vibration;
  • connection materials;
  • external environment;
  • available space;
  • need for a flow liner, bolster or protection.

Let us review your requirements

An expansion joint cannot be selected on diameter alone. Send us the movements and operating conditions so that we can assess the appropriate construction.
