01

Construction

A rubber expansion joint generally comprises a moulded, fabric-reinforced elastomer body assembled with fixed or swivel metal flanges, depending on the design.

The flexibility of the element allows combinations of axial, lateral and angular movement to be absorbed within the manufacturer’s specified limits.

Materials

Depending on the fluid, temperature and requirements:

  • EPDM;
  • NBR;
  • CSM / Hypalon®;
  • FKM / Viton®;
  • documented food-grade qualities;
  • other constructions available from the manufacturer.
03

Options for special services

Options commonly considered include:

  • PTFE liner for certain aggressive chemical media;
  • support ring for certain vacuum applications;
  • steel or stainless-steel flanges;
  • adaptations to suit the connection.
04

Flange reuse

Where the design permits, replacing only the flexible body and reusing the existing flanges may reduce cost and waste. Contact us to assess feasibility against the condition and type of flange.
