PTFE gaskets

Virgin, filled, modified or expanded PTFE sealing solutions are particularly suited to aggressive fluids and applications requiring very high chemical inertness.

PTFE cut gaskets
01

A broad family of materials

The term ‘PTFE gasket’ covers several constructions with very different mechanical behaviour.

European Sealing Technology supplies:

  • virgin PTFE;
  • filled PTFE;
  • modified/structured PTFE;
  • multidirectionally expanded PTFE;
  • standard or custom-cut gaskets to drawing.

Selection must consider not only chemical compatibility, but also creep, stress relaxation, available flange load and flange rigidity.

02

Virgin PTFE

Virgin PTFE is used where chemical inertness and material cleanliness are priorities. It can be supplied as sheet or converted into cut gaskets.

Depending on the application, grades meeting food-contact or regulatory requirements can be offered on the basis of the relevant documentation.

03

Filled and modified PTFE

Fillers or structural modification can tailor PTFE behaviour in terms of dimensional stability, creep, compressibility or suitability for certain flanges.

Available solutions may use fillers such as silica, glass or graphite, as well as other specific formulations within the manufacturer’s range.

KWO® MultiTex®
Multidirectionally expanded PTFE

KWO® MultiTex® Sheet 2.0 is manufactured from multidirectionally expanded PTFE without pigments or adhesives. Its flexible structure conforms closely to sealing surfaces and compensates for irregularities, particularly in stress-sensitive assemblies.

The current KWO® data sheet notes:

  • high chemical resistance;
  • good conformity to surface irregularities;
  • good resistance to creep and cold flow;
  • applications on metal or glass-lined flanges;
  • versions suitable for clean and regulated industries, subject to certification.

Operating limits must be taken directly from the current KWO® data sheet.

05

Flexitallic® Uniflon®

Uniflon® 50

Highly conformable biaxially oriented PTFE, particularly suitable for irregular flanges or assemblies with limited available gasket seating stress, such as certain glass-lined, coated or distorted flanges.

Uniflon® 51

Silica-filled biaxially oriented PTFE for a broad range of chemical applications. The manufacturer’s data sheet must be consulted for compatibility exceptions.

Uniflon® 53

Barium-sulphate-filled biaxially oriented PTFE for many chemical and general applications.

06

Flexitallic® SIGMA 533

SIGMA 533 is a barium-sulphate-filled biaxially oriented PTFE. Flexitallic® documentation specifies use across a broad range of chemicals, with certain exceptions clearly defined by the manufacturer.
